Deep Fried

Guinness Beer Batter deep fried oyster

Ingredients:

For the Guinness Beer Batter:

  • 500ml cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 250ml Guinness (or any stout beer)
  • 2 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For the Deep-Fried Oysters:

  • 1 dozen fresh oysters, shucked and dried on a paper towel.
  • All-Purpose Flour, for dusting
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Oysters:
  • Ensure that the oysters are properly shucked, removing any shell fragments.
  • Pat the oysters dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help the batter adhere better.
  • Toss in flour and set aside whilst you prepare the batter
  1. Prepare the Beer Batter:
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg lightly, then add the Guinness beer and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until you have a smooth batter. Be careful not to overmix.
  1. Fry the Oysters:
  • In a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Dip each oyster into the beer batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
  • Carefully lower the battered oysters into the hot oil, one at a time, using a slotted spoon or tongs.
  • Fry the oysters in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the fryer, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried oysters from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve the deep-fried oysters hot, garnished with lemon wedges.
  • Optionally, serve with tartar sauce or cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.

Enjoy your crispy and flavorful deep-fried oysters in Guinness beer batter! They make a delicious appetizer or main dish for any seafood lover.
